Judges Comments:
A take on sustainability that takes a local utilitarian resources and makes place form it - sustainability as generator of architecture not a post-justified bolt on.

A project which tackles issues of economic sustainability in the West Islands seriously, whist showing a real sensitivity to place.

The project demonstrates a real understanding of developing a sustainable practice by finding a programme and site that has the possibility to reinvigorate a rural area of Scotland. The project design finds an appropriate language and scale to develop the thesis in a convincing manner.

The judges for the 2008 Awards were:
Morag Bain, Project Director, ACCESS to Architecture
Arnie Dunn, President, RIAS
Ian Gilzean, Chief Architect, Architecture Policy Unit, Scottish Government
Roisin Heneghan, Heneghan and Peng
Charlie Baker, Urbed
