Material Consideration : A Natural Factory exhibition showcases the past present and future uses of indigenous Scottish timber - from tree to paper - but in particular the potential to use timber as a building material.

The exhibition comprises three sections: starting with the forest where trees grow and mature, following on to the production line where the raw timber is turned into products and building materials, and a final area displays case studies and full size samples from recent Scottish buildings that showcase the use of timber in their construction.

This is the first in a series of exhibitions investigating sustainable construction products (Materials Considerations) which will ultimately form the core of the Scottish Government funded Sust. Materials Library. The exhibition and resultant library will operate on a number of levels, and should appeal to young people, the general public and professionals alike – whether as a resource for school and student projects, for those upgrading their homes or for designers working on large scale architectural projects.

This exhibition is a collaboration between Sust. (Architecture and Design Scotland’s Sustainability in Architecture Programme) and the Forestry Commission Scotland.
